S7 for Raspberry Pi

S7 for Raspberry Pi, Ref.Code: REX-RPi-S7

Exactly which model S7 can you connect to? S7: 200, 300, 400, 1200, 1500?

Re: S7 for Raspberry Pi

It is possible to use REX on Raspberry Pi to communicate with all Siemens PLCs with Ethernet communication using S7 communication protocol. The Siemens Communication Processor can be external such as CP343/CP443 or internal (e.g. in 3XX-PN or 4XX-PN CPUs).

Re: S7 for Raspberry Pi

All the newer PLCs (S7-1200, S7-1500) have Ethernet communication built-in so you can always connect to these.

Re: S7 for Raspberry Pi

Is it possible using a Serial Server and than use the S7 driver to connect to a S7-200 PLC serie? For instance an ADAM 4571 or similar type of device.
The S7-200 has by default only RS485 communication, but using such a serial server will add a TCP/IP port connection.
Would that work?

Peter

Re: S7 for Raspberry Pi

Hi Peter,
unfortunatelly not. Siemens PLCs without Ethernet port do not support communication via S7 protocol.

Maybe you could program the S7-200 to act as Modbus slave and read the data via RS485?

Re: S7 for Raspberry Pi

Thanks Jaroslav for the update on this. Than I don't have to give that a trial with the serial server.
I will try using ModBus.
Thanks for the advise.
