REX on Raspbian Jessie

I noted in your install notes that Raspbian Wheezy should be used.  I want to try this out on a system currently using Jessie.  Do you know if REX will work with Jessie, or do I need to rebuild using Wheezy?

Thanks.

Re: REX on Raspbian Jessie

At the moment you have to stick with Wheezy. Support for Jessie will be added, but no exact date can be given.

Re: REX on Raspbian Jessie

Hello Jaroslav,
sorry, but we dont want to go back to Wheezy now. The UniPi-evok works great on Jessie so now we want to buy your Rex-Soft to realize our heatpump-PLC. Can you give a time table for Jessie-support?

Also some weeks ago there was an inquiry for native Rex-Support for UniPi-extentions (esp. analog output ext.). Does you finished this?

We want to work on Rex-programming - not changing OS or building special solutions. Please understand - it will be a hard time as Rex-beginner and we want to focus on a perfect software development.

With best regards
iot

Re: REX on Raspbian Jessie

Hi, we are working on Jessie support. I'll let you know when it's ready.

As for the AO extension for UniPi - does the example based on REXLANG work for you?

Re: REX on Raspbian Jessie

Raspbian Jessie is officially supported in version 2.10.8!

Hi, you can test REX on Jessie now. It seems OK but we did only very quick testing so use at own risk.

Follow the installation instructions, the only difference will be in step 6: replace wheezy with jessie and replace debian-rex-2.10 with debian-rex-2.10.7-testjessie.

Follow the installation instructions for HMI, the only difference will be in step 2: replace lighttpd with lighttpd=1.4.31-103 so that the command is
sudo apt-get install rexwstcp lighttpd=1.4.31-103 lighttpd-mod-websocket

Once the HMI is working, run the following to start lighttpd webserver upon reboot. Handling of system services is a bit different from Wheezy so you have to run this command manually.

sudo systemctl enable lighttpd

When configuring OWFS, replace localhost with 127.0.0.1 in the /etc/owfs.conf file (there are 2 occurrences).

Hope this helps, let me know if you encounter difficulties.

Re: REX on Raspbian Jessie

Thank you,
because of testing status of Rex-jessie we had first to deal with backup solutions for our RPi-SSD to go back if something goes wrong (lots of hours for install and config of raspbian, rtc, evok, upsd...). Finding out the right backup solution took some time.
We ended up with partclone, which generates very small backups. Unfortunately we fighted 2 days with partition problems, which shouldn't be the common state (Can't find a valid F2FS filesystem in ... superblock). We solved it with gparted from an external linux-PC but it was a hard trip.

We'll have a try of Rex-jessie next week. You'll get feedback. Can YOU also go on with testing on jessie?

Would it be possible to give the UniPi-extensions a native Rex-support next time? We will check your Rex-lang-solution first but are interested not to use special solutions in future. It'll be more and more complicated, especially for Rex-beginners.

Re: REX on Raspbian Jessie

Of course we are also testing REX on Jessie. I just wanted to give you a chance to get you up and running (hopefully) as soon as possible.

The AO extension will get native support in the nearest release. Let me know if you are able to achieve the desired functionality with the REXLANG example. Thanks.

Re: REX on Raspbian Jessie

There are conflicting versions of lighttpd on Jessie. I have updated my previous post with instructions on resolving this issue.
