PWM on Monarco Hat

Hi All,

I need to PWM a MOC3023 optocoupler from the Monarco Hat. I'm not 100% sure on how to do this as the MOC3023 requires 3v3 and the digital outputs are 5-40V. Whats the best way the achieve this? The MOC3023 needs to be driven by 5mA.

Cheers

Mike

Re: PWM on Monarco Hat

With a series resistor of 470 ohm you should be fine I guess. This will guarantee the 5mA you need to trigger the MOC3023 and the digital outputs can handle a current up to 1A so no problem.

Re: PWM on Monarco Hat

Thanks scoobsalamander,

Do you now if I can use the 5v from the Monarco Hat or should I supply a sepaerate 5v?

Cheers

Re: PWM on Monarco Hat

Hi Mike,
feel free to use the 5V output of the Monarco HAT. Alternatively, you can use the 24V OUT and a 3k3 resistor.

@scoobsalamander: Thumbs up!

Jaroslav

Re: PWM on Monarco Hat

Awesome thanks Jaroslav and scoobsalamander

Just to double check. Is that the 1-wire 5v or the gpio 5v? and how much current can the 5v provide?

Cheers

Mike

Re: PWM on Monarco Hat

Hi Mike,
it's the same 5V which power the Raspberry Pi itself. The polyfuse limits the current on "1W 5V OUT" to 100 mA continuous.

Jaroslav
