Hello,
I'm considering using Raspberry Pi3 with REX to control a kamado style smoker. It would be very nice to have the remote capability of a web server with temperature logging & graphing.
So the question is:
1. Will the basic Pi starter license allow me to read two thermocouple inputs via SPI (or one-wire) and use one of them as a process variable in the program and the other for trending and alarm etc...?
2. Will the basic license allow me to drive a PWM output for a combustion fan?
3. can I accomplish the above without any additional hardware modules? PIO etc... as it appears to be difficult to acquire them in the states. ( I plan to use a thermocouple amplifier with 1-wire or spi comms)
I believe the answer to be yes, but just wanted to mainly be sure that I could read 1-wire or spi sensors with the basic license.
thank you

Hello,
general answer is: Yes, you can control a kamado style smoker with Raspberry Pi and REX Starter licence.
However, there are few things which you should know about:
1. It is possible to read thermocouples via SPI in REX. In order to read a 1-wire thermocouplers you will probably need to use for example 1-wire USB adapter.
2. Some basic circuitry will be necessary to drive a combustion fan via PWM output (at least proper amplifying transistor).
If you require any further information, feel free to contact us.

Thanks Tomas,
I'm the process control guy at a University power plant, the electrical part is up my alley so I'll probably give it a go.
