What you intend to do is possible. We have an example for UniPi which solves just that. You should be able to modify it for Raspberry Pi.
See the documentation:

Getting started with REX on Raspberry Pi

Modbus driver manual

Raspberry Pi driver manual

And here is the mentioned example: UniPi as Modbus TCP slave

Hope this helps!

I have a Schneider Electric STU, 3.5 in TFT LCD Touch-Screen HMI Display. It is modbus tcp compatible. I plan to do control via scripting on hmi, but would like to use the rasberry pi as a remote I/O via modbus tcp to be able to use the gpio as digital inputs/outputs to access them from the hmi.

Do you have a solution for this to use a rasberry pi as remote io?

Thank you
